This notice explains where and how Canopy uses artificial intelligence, in line with our obligations under Article 50 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689)

1. Where we use AI

Canopy uses machine learning models in three places:

• Predictions: We train AI models on your historical time series data to understand the behaviour of your machines. Predicted values are displayed alongside actual sensor/measurement readings in the app, clearly marked as predictions.
• Detectors: All detectors are triggered based on the AI-generated predictions. Where this is the case, the alarm indicates that it was triggered by a predicted value.
• Cases: Canopy can automatically generate "cases" (tracked issues, including title and description) based on detected anomalies or alarm conditions. These cases are AI-generated and are labeled as such at creation. Users can review, edit, or dismiss them.

2. Limitations

AI-generated predictions and cases are outputs of statistical models and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or fail to capture real-world conditions. They should not be treated as ground truth and should not be the sole basis for safety-critical or high-stakes operational decisions. Actual readings, where available, take precedence over predicted values.

3. How disclosure appears in-product

• Predicted values are visually distinguished from actual readings on all charts and views (legends will read "prediction" or "expected").
• Cases created automatically by AI are tagged (by an icon) and distinguishable from manually created cases.

4. Your role as a deployer

If you are using Canopy within your own organization and its outputs are shown to your employees, contractors, or customers, you may also have obligations as a deployer under Article 50 of the EU AI Act to ensure those individuals are aware that they are viewing AI-generated content. Canopy supports this by labeling AI-generated content at the point of display; you remain responsible for ensuring this is communicated appropriately in your own workflows.
